
About the Role
While Oyster's positions are fully remote, this role specifically requires you to be based within Spain.
In this role, you will play a critical part in ensuring Oyster meets its statutory Health & Safety obligations in Spain. You will own the delivery of Spain’s occupational risk prevention requirements, including the design, implementation, and ongoing management of Oyster’s Internal Prevention Service (Servicio de Prevención Propio). You’ll have the independence, authority, and dedicated time needed to ensure local regulatory expectations are met while maintaining high standards of employee safety.
Alongside your core Spain remit, you’ll bring your expertise to Oyster’s global Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) landscape, supporting teams and external partners across regions. You will provide global HSE guidance, share best practices, and contribute to Oyster’s broader HSE strategy.
Key Responsibilities
Spain Occupational Risk Prevention & Compliance
- Internal Prevention Service Management: Lead the creation, design, implementation, and management of Oyster’s Internal Prevention Service in Spain.
- Risk Assessments & Investigations: Perform workplace and occupational risk assessments, and investigate work-related accidents and occupational illnesses.
- H&S Subject Matter Expert: Act as the primary expert responsible for resolving complex Spain-specific Health & Safety questions and escalations from internal teams.
- Reporting & Advisory: Conduct health and safety reports, perform safety measurements, and advise the business on protective measures.
- Regulatory Liaison: Counsel and represent the business during Labor Inspection visits and manage relationships with HSE vendors.
- Vendor Management: Manage vendor relationships related to workplace safety and compliance in Spain in partnership with Vendor Partnerships.
Global & Regional HSE Ownership
- Policy & Strategy Collaboration: Collaborate on HSE policies, procedures, and best practices tailored to a remote work environment.
- Audits, Inspections & Committees: Lead global H&S audits and inspections while guiding global H&S committees.
- Global Assessment & Monitoring: Conduct regular remote risk assessments, implement mitigating measures, and monitor the global remote health and safety program.
- Incident Management: Investigate and document global incidents or accidents, implementing swift corrective actions.
- Regulatory Watch: Stay up to date with global health and safety regulations and integrate safety considerations into remote work processes.
Global HSE Vendor Management
- Escalation & Lifecycle Management: Own day-to-day relationships with Health & Safety vendors across onboarding, KPIs/SLAs, governance, reviews, and offboarding.
- Expert Ownership: Serve as the trusted point of contact for vendor issues and coordinate root-cause investigations.
- Data & Feedback: Analyze performance and feedback to identify operational improvements, leveraging AI and automation where appropriate.
Stakeholder Support & Projects
- Content & Training: Build knowledge resources and deliver training to increase internal H&S literacy.
- Project Leadership: Independently lead cross-functional H&S initiatives in partnership with the Director of People Services.
- Continuous Improvement: Audit and refine workflows, leverage AI responsibly, and build preventative resources to deflect recurring queries.
Qualifications & Skills
- H&S Expertise: Deep technical knowledge of Spain’s occupational risk prevention regulations, with proven experience setting up or managing an Internal Prevention Service (Servicio de Prevención Propio).
- Education: Bachelor's degree in environmental health, safety, engineering, or a related field; plus a Master's degree in Occupational Risk Prevention (Técnico Superior en Prevención de Riesgos Profesionales) with all three specializations.
- Global Perspective: Experience or comfort supporting health & safety frameworks across multiple global regions (EMEA, APAC, LATAM, AMER) in a remote environment.
- Vendor & Project Management: Proven track record managing HSE compliance vendors and driving cross-functional projects.
- Communication: Full English proficiency (C1 level or above) with experience handling escalations and advising senior leadership.
