PostgreSQL Database Support Engineer - Percona

What You'll Be Doing

• Teaming up with industry-renowned database experts and mentors.
• Assisting customer DBA teams with expert guidance by gathering data, investigating issues, and providing detailed findings via email, instant message, or voice.
• Conducting screen-sharing sessions for critical, production-impacting issues to navigate and resolve outages quickly.
• Authoring technical blog posts for the open-source community, answering forum questions, writing customer knowledge base articles, and hosting webinars.

Requirements

• Good hands-on knowledge of PostgreSQL, provided tools, and contribution modules.
• Experience with the broader PostgreSQL ecosystem of tools and technologies.
• Strong knowledge of performance tuning, query optimization, and index tuning.
• Familiarity with backup solutions (e.g., pg_basebackup, pgBackRest, WAL-G) and Point-in-Time Recovery (PITR).
• Experience with high-availability solutions (replication, routers, proxies) and zero-downtime procedures.
• Solid understanding of database monitoring requirements.
• Demonstrable experience administering Linux-based systems.
• Methodical troubleshooting skills to resolve complex issues.
• Self-taught drive to grow your skill set with evolving database technologies.
• Availability to travel for occasional team meetings, conferences, or customer visits.
• Professional fluency in English working with international customers.

What Would Make You Stand Out

• Knowledge of Kubernetes and container environments.
• MySQL knowledge.
• Experience working in SLA-bound operations.
• Open-source community contributions or technical blogging.
• Experience with Patroni, Repmgr, or Stolon.
• Cloud platforms such as AWS/RDS, Azure, or GCP.
• Percona Monitoring & Management (PMM) and other monitoring tooling.
• Configuration management tools (Ansible, Puppet, Chef).
• Proficiency in ANSI SQL (92–2016), including window functions and recursive CTEs.
• Popular extensions (pg_repack, pg_partman, pg_audit) and Foreign Data Wrappers (postgres_fdw, oracle_fdw, etc.).
• Advanced Linux troubleshooting tools (gdb, perf, strace, bpftrace, tcpdump).
• C programming experience.
