About the Role

We’re searching for a player-coach (Senior) Engineering Manager and Tech Lead for our Marketplace team. The Propel Marketplace connects ~5M monthly active users to products, healthcare, financial services, and exclusive offers via the Propel app.

This is a hybrid Engineering Manager / Individual Contributor role where you will design system architecture as the technical lead, manage 3-5 teammates across sub-teams, and support team hiring and development.

What You'll Do

• Set the technical vision for the marketplace team and build scalable systems to serve relevant offers to users efficiently.
• Manage and coach 3-5 direct reports across multiple sub-teams to support their career advancement.
• Develop team-level processes to foster consistency and collaboration within a remote-first company culture.
• Facilitate efficient cross-functional collaboration between engineering, product, design, and data teams.
• Ensure smooth onboarding for new engineers and continuously refine team processes.

What You Have

• 10+ years of experience designing and developing web or mobile applications, especially in ad tech or consumer products.
• 2+ years of experience managing engineers in a startup, remote-first environment.
• Strong AI skills and the ability to think systematically about when and where to apply AI effectively.
• A growth mindset, curiosity, and deep interest in how the Marketplace business operates.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Passion for making a positive impact on the lives of safety net benefit recipients.
• Bonus: Experience with or knowledge of government safety net programs (SNAP, WIC, TANF, SSI, SSDI, Medicaid, Section 8).

Location & Compensation

• Location: Remote (US) or option to work out of our Downtown Brooklyn office.
• Base Salary: $200,000 - $250,000 (depending on experience, with room to uplevel to Senior Manager for exceptional candidates).
