SEI Instructor Lead - Remote

About the Role

General Assembly is looking for a Lead Instructor with strong JavaScript experience to join our instructional team for the Software Engineering Immersive course. This role is a full-time, temporary position covering the 10–14 week duration of a single cohort, with potential for future assignment offerings.

In this role, you will guide, inspire, and mentor students as they build the skills and mindset required to launch careers as full-stack web developers.

What We Teach

Our curriculum follows the evolution of software engineering, focusing primarily on full-stack JavaScript:

• Fundamentals: HTML, CSS, and core JavaScript programming.
• Back-End: API development in Node.js, SQL (PostgreSQL), and NoSQL (MongoDB, Redis).
• Front-End: Modern MV* frameworks (React, Angular, or Backbone).
• Developer Workflow: Source control, team collaboration, and best practices.
• Projects: Guiding students through at least 4 major projects throughout the course.

Responsibilities

• Teach and facilitate live instruction Monday through Friday (approximately 8 hours/day) for the 10–14 week program duration.
• Spend a few hours per week preparing lessons and materials leveraging GA's global curriculum.
• Collaborate with co-instructors and teaching assistants to provide timely, constructive feedback.
• Guide students through the development of final portfolio projects for potential employers.
• Foster a safe, inclusive, collaborative, and energetic classroom environment.

Skills & Qualifications

• Experience: At least 2+ years working on a software development team, with at least 2 years of practical software engineering experience within the last 5 years.
• Front-End & Back-End Fluency: HTML/CSS, full-stack JavaScript, at least one JS framework (React preferred), SQL (PostgreSQL), and NoSQL.
• Object-Oriented Programming: Familiarity with an additional OOP language (Python preferred).
• Computer Science Fundamentals: Knowledge of topics such as recursion, sorting, search, linked lists, stacks/queues, trees, hash tables, and design patterns.
• Education: Completion of a bachelor's degree OR 10+ years of applicable experience.
• Soft Skills: Strong mentorship, leadership, communication, and decision-making abilities.

Compensation & Benefits

• Course Compensation: $23,000 – $27,000 for the full cohort duration (US market rate, determined by experience, education, and geographic location).
• Benefits: Eligibility for dental and vision coverage for US temporary full-time staff, alongside paid time off and holiday pay.

Location & Licensure Requirements

• Remote Eligibility: Approved GA operating countries include the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Australia, and Singapore.
• State Licensure: GA is a regulated higher education provider. You may be required to obtain state instructor licensure during onboarding (GA covers all licensing fees).
