About the Role

Our Software Engineering Immersive course is a transformational educational experience where students learn the skills and mindsets to take on new careers as web developers. We are looking for a Lead Instructor with strong JavaScript experience to play a key role on our instructional team.

This is a full-time, temporary position corresponding to the 10–14 week duration of a single cohort, with potential for future cohort assignments.

Curriculum Focus

Our primary educational approach centers around JavaScript and standard developer workflows:

  • Fundamentals: Programming basics, HTML, CSS, and core JavaScript.
  • Backend & APIs: API development with Node.js, SQL databases (PostgreSQL), and NoSQL (MongoDB, Redis).
  • Frontend Frameworks: Modern MV* frameworks including React, Angular, or Backbone.
  • Languages: JavaScript primary focus, with exposure to additional Object-Oriented languages (e.g., Python).
  • Projects: Students spend ~20% of class time building 4 major portfolio projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Teach and facilitate live online instruction Monday–Friday (approximately 8 hours per day for 10–14 weeks).
  • Commit hours each week to lesson preparation leveraging existing GA curriculum content.
  • Work with co-instructors and teaching assistants to provide prompt, actionable feedback to students.
  • Guide students through building a showcase final project for prospective employers.
  • Maintain a dynamic, collaborative, and positive classroom environment.

Requirements

  • Experience: 2+ years of experience working on a professional software development team (practical experience within the last 5 years; teaching experience excluded).
  • Computer Science Fundamentals: Familiarity with topics such as recursion, sorting, search, linked lists, stacks/queues, trees, graphs, hash tables, and design patterns.
  • Tech Stack Fluency:
    • HTML and CSS
    • Full-stack JavaScript (strong JS experience required)
    • At least one JS MV* framework (React, Angular, or Backbone preferred)
    • SQL databases (PostgreSQL)
    • NoSQL databases (MongoDB, Redis)
    • Object-oriented programming (Python preferred)
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree OR at least 10 years of applicable industry experience.
  • Licensure: Ability to complete state instructor licensing requirements during onboarding (GA covers all licensing fees).

Compensation & Benefits

  • Cohort Compensation: $23,000 – $27,000 for the full duration of the 10–14 week course (US market rate; varies by location and experience).
  • Benefits: Temporary full-time employees may be eligible for dental and vision coverage, paid time off (PTO), and holiday pay.
