Head of Product Marketing - Rocket.Chat

About Rocket.Chat

Rocket.Chat is an open-source secure communications platform for organizations that can't rely on public SaaS tools and need full control over their data, infrastructure, and security posture. Our Secure CommsOS unifies messaging, voice, video, AI, and mission-critical applications into a single platform, built for governments, defense, and critical infrastructure organizations operating in high-stakes environments. The platform is open source and MIT-licensed, backed by a global community of 1,000+ contributors. We're a remote-first team spread across the world.

The Role

This is a hands-on, individual-contributor role, with the expectation that you'll help build out the function over time. You'll own how Rocket.Chat's product shows up in the market: what we say about it, who we say it to, and how sales and partners bring it to customers.

We're looking for a self-starter who's comfortable in a fast-paced, still-evolving environment — someone who thrives on change and demonstrates strong resilience. Our buyers are a narrow and specific set: defense programs and intelligence agencies running classified, air-gapped, and DDIL networks; NATO bodies and European ministries of defence; federal system integrators and primes; and national ministries or EU institutions that cannot put sensitive data in commercial SaaS. For this mission, you'll work closely with Product, Sales, and the rest of the Marketing team.

Your Team

You will report to our CMO and join the Marketing team. You can view the complete structure of our organisation, including information about every team member, hiring managers, and the size of each department on TheOrg.

What You'll Do

Product Marketing and Releases

  • Lead go-to-market for major and minor product releases, and for new capabilities as they ship.
  • Translate product capabilities into messaging that resonates with technical and executive buyers alike.

Messaging, Positioning, and Competitive Intelligence

  • Own core messaging and positioning across our audiences, from enterprise IT buyers to government and defense stakeholders.
  • Craft value messaging that connects technical capabilities to the outcomes our buyers actually care about.
  • Build and maintain product and competitive battle cards that give sales a real edge in-deal.

Enablement

  • Run internal enablement so our go-to-market (GTM) organization understands what we're launching and why it matters.
  • Build partner enablement materials that help our channel sell Rocket.Chat effectively.

Content and Sales Assets

  • Own the core library of sales decks, one-pagers, website use-case pages, and other materials sales and marketing rely on.
  • Produce customer stories with ICP customers that show proof of the value we deliver.

Market and Customer Intelligence

  • Maintain our AI-assisted marketing repository in GitHub — the shared source of truth for positioning, competitive intel, and messaging that the wider marketing team draws from. Comfort working in GitHub (or a similar version-controlled environment) is a plus.
  • Maintain contact and ICP data that keeps our targeting sharp.

Occasional Strategic Support

  • Support pricing decisions and packaging discussions when needed.
  • Contribute to analyst relations work and peer-review platforms (e.g., G2, Gartner Peer Insights) as opportunities come up.

Mandatory Hard Skills

  • Experience: At least 5 years in product marketing at a B2B or enterprise software company, owning messaging, positioning, and product launches end-to-end. A strong track record with slightly less tenure is also welcome.
  • Startup Background: Experience running product marketing at early-stage or growth-stage software start-ups.
  • Technical Translation: A track record of translating technical product capabilities into clear, credible messaging for both technical and business buyers.
  • Enablement: Experience building sales and partner enablement content that actually gets used.
  • Cross-Functional Alignment: Comfort working cross-functionally with Product, Sales, and Partner teams, and owning outcomes.
  • Technical Fluency: Ability to get genuinely fluent in highly technical product concepts (security architecture, deployment models, compliance frameworks) and in the technical audiences we sell to.
  • Writing: Strong writing skills across one-pagers, battle cards, and customer stories.
  • Adaptability: A resilient self-starter, comfortable in a fast-paced, low-hierarchy environment.
  • Prioritization: Ability to prioritize high-impact projects while juggling requests from multiple parts of the business.

Desirable Hard Skills

  • Experience in security, government, defense, critical infrastructure, or secure communications (huge plus).
  • Experience with analyst relations or peer-review programs.
  • Familiarity with open-source go-to-market models.

Soft Skills

  • Passion: Genuine enthusiasm for what you do and how it contributes to our company's mission.
  • Dream: Proactively seek out opportunities and challenges to achieve extraordinary results.
  • Own: Take ownership of your work, set high standards, and be accountable for outcomes.
  • Trust: Recognize the importance of trust and support, actively working towards a collaborative and inclusive workplace.
  • Share: Communicate openly and transparently, ensuring clarity and honesty in interactions.
