We're a small, growing marketing team. We’re seeking a systems thinker who can contribute marketing ideas, tasks, and projects with a combination of elbow grease, AI skills, creative problem solving, and drawing on their lived experience. This person will get pointed at a problem and expected to solve it, sometimes with minimal direction and assistance.
Metabase is used by hundreds of thousands of people to answer questions about their own data, most of whom aren't analysts. We've always believed the best marketing for a tool like ours comes from people who use it. So we're looking for someone who is closer to our user than to a traditional marketing résumé: you've been the person on a team who figured out the data, wired up the integration, built the dashboard nobody asked for, and then explained it to everyone else. You bring that confidence to other tasks, including those you’re trying for the first time.
If you've used Metabase, or you write SQL and have opinions about BI tools, we especially want to hear from you. You'd be marketing to yourself, which is a big advantage. You’ll be working closely with everyone on the marketing team, reporting directly to the VP of Marketing. You'd be joining at a point where the marketing team is small enough that what you build becomes how we do things.
Responsibilities
The specifics will shift dramatically. Over the first year, expect a mix of:
- Helping build and refine our marketing stack the way an engineer would: know what's connected to what, what's breaking, and what's quietly costing us money.
- Building integrations and automations between our tools using APIs, webhooks, MCPs, and whatever glue is appropriate.
- Publishing and managing webpages via GitHub; optimizing via A/B tests; spinning up landing pages with minimal direction.
- Owning smaller channel experiments end-to-end, from hypothesis to write-up, including (especially) the ones that fail.
- Supporting our community events programs, including logistics, speaker wrangling, pre- and post-event comms, and the data collection that makes an event worthwhile.
- Pressure-testing our messaging against your own experience as a data-curious person who uses tools like ours.
What We're Looking For
You don't need a traditional marketing background. You do need to be data-curious, technically fearless, and close to our target persona. The core traits we’re looking for are some combination of:
- You've used Metabase or are comfortable writing SQL.
- You have fluency with AI tools and know when to apply them.
- You communicate clearly in writing, which is vital for our remote, async culture.
- You have high-agency, are resourceful, and are comfortable learning new things.
- You have experience in analytics, ops, support, consulting, engineering, product, or marketing.
