About the Role
Spotted Zebra is seeking a part-time Financial Controller working approximately two days per week and reporting directly to the CEO. You will bring accounts, cash flow, budgets, and forecasts into a single reliable view, giving leadership and the board clear visibility on performance, cash, and risk.
Working alongside an outsourced finance partner, you will adapt and update finance systems, controls, and processes to support our scaling business.
Key Responsibilities
- System & Process Review: Update and adapt existing finance systems, models, controls, and processes to ensure scalability.
- Month-End Timetable: Manage month-end timelines and oversee the relationship with the outsourced finance partner.
- Management Accounts: Conduct detailed reviews of revenue, costs, accruals, prepayments, deferred income, and material judgements.
- Action Log & Resolutions: Identify missing invoices or incomplete details, resolving issues before accounts reach the CEO.
- Cash-Flow Forecasting: Own and update the rolling cash-flow forecast to surface risks early.
- Budgeting & Re-forecasting: Lead annual budgeting and regular re-forecasting alongside business leaders.
- Financial Scenario Modeling: Model cash and profit impacts of hiring, customer timing changes, and investment decisions.
- Board Reporting: Prepare the financial section of board packs, spreadsheets, slide decks, SaaS metrics, and narrative commentary.
- Commission & Commercial Support: Oversee commission plan calculations, ensure accurate payments, and provide financial analysis.
Requirements
Ideal Profile
- Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, or CIMA).
- Hands-on experience as a Financial Controller in a growing SaaS, technology, or recurring-revenue company.
- Strong management accounting background (month-end review, accruals, prepayments, revenue recognition, variance analysis).
- Proven ability to build and maintain cash-flow forecasts, budgets, and scenario models.
- Experience preparing clear financial reports and commentary for board or executive leadership.
- Comfortable directing outsourced accounting partners while retaining internal ownership of outputs.
- Deep understanding of key SaaS metrics (ARR, bookings, revenue, gross margin, retention, cash runway).
- Advanced spreadsheet skills with a practical, simplified modeling approach.
- Proactive problem solver willing to investigate missing details.
- Strong communicator capable of constructively challenging assumptions.
- Ability to manage priorities effectively in a part-time setting (2 days/week).

- Venture-backed scale-up experience or background supporting fundraising rounds.
- Deep expertise in complex SaaS accounting (deferred income, multi-year enterprise contracts).
- Experience reviewing sales commission structures.
- Leadership of annual budgets and rolling re-forecasts in a fast-paced technology environment.
- Experience coordinating year-end accounts, tax, payroll, and external advisers.
