What We’re Looking For

Stedi is looking for a Software Development Manager to lead a feature team responsible for building highly scalable, resilient, modern APIs that allow healthcare technology companies and traditional healthcare IT organizations to perform essential transactions for millions of patients each month.

This role offers the opportunity to lead a team of engineers, shape the future of a mission-critical part of healthcare infrastructure, and help build the foundational technology that powers modern healthcare systems.

How We Build

• AWS exclusively: All customer-facing backend infrastructure runs on AWS. Tools include GitHub, Stripe, and PagerDuty, but all application workloads happen on AWS.
• Serverless architecture: We use serverless technologies almost exclusively: Lambda, API Gateway, SQS, SNS, DynamoDB, Aurora Serverless, and more. We don't run a single server.
• Infrastructure as code: We use CDK (TypeScript) to define all infrastructure as code.
• Rust core: We write the majority of our API backends and EDI parsing engine in Rust.

What You'll Do

• Lead a high-performing engineering team by setting an ambitious pace with rigorous quality expectations.
• Manage daily engineering workflows, monitoring timelines and resources to ensure projects are executed efficiently and to a high standard.
• Align engineering deliverables with customer needs, partnering closely with Product and Customer Operations to resolve high-priority issues and deliver features on time.
• Increase accountability across the team by setting clear performance expectations and regularly reviewing progress.
• Identify and implement process enhancements to increase operational efficiency, organizing design reviews, post-mortems, and fostering continuous improvement.
• Coordinate operational readiness for incidents and compliance requirements, overseeing run-books, game-day simulations, and security practices.
• Mentor engineers, provide guidance, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to promote technical excellence.

Who You Are

• 5+ years of engineering experience, with at least 3+ years in an engineering management role.
• 2+ years of hands-on experience working with AWS services.
• Exceptional written communication skills, with the ability to synthesize and clearly convey complex technical concepts.
• Proven experience managing and fostering collaboration in a remote-first environment.
• Commitment to cultivating and supporting high-performing teams.
• High bandwidth with the ability to pay thoughtful attention to multiple areas simultaneously and context-switch effectively as priorities shift.
