About the Role

We’re seeking a skilled Software Engineer to join our Dataplane Engineering Team. You will contribute to core client connectivity features, evolve our connectivity offerings (including subnet routers and exit nodes), and resolve complex network connectivity issues.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, build, test, and document core client-side networking software.
• Advance product features by merging industry network protocols with Tailscale's designs.
• Adopt a security-centric approach to architecture and coding.
• Evaluate and optimize performance, reliability, and scale across various platforms.
• Provide expert consultation for customer success teams on critical network escalations.
• Engage actively with the open-source community.

What We Are Looking For

• Significant experience with networking software and diagnosing network issues.
• Comprehensive grasp of routing, VPNs, IP address management, and NAT traversal.
• Proficiency in Go or other low-level languages (C/C++, Rust) with a strong grasp of concurrent programming.
• Experience with large-scale distributed systems (highly desirable).
• Knowledge of low-level OS network stacks (highly desirable).
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
