About the Position

We are seeking a Recruiter to collaborate closely with our founders and Chief of Staff to fill open roles. This position primarily focuses on technical (engineering) hiring, with some generalist roles included. This is a 3-month fixed-term contract with a genuine possibility of converting to a permanent role, depending on performance and evolving hiring needs.

We need a strong individual contributor capable of handling all hands-on aspects of hiring, including sourcing, screening, interviewing, and managing agency relationships. Your efforts will free up our leadership team for other priority projects while maintaining a high quality of hire. We also aim to reduce agency fees by building out more direct pipelines.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Executing Hiring: Running sourcing, screening, and interviewing for priority roles, driving the hiring process while leadership sets the direction.
  • Primarily Technical Hiring: Dedicating most of your time to engineering roles (backend, infrastructure, etc.), but also picking up generalist roles as they arise.
  • Headhunting and Proactive Sourcing: Building direct pipelines rather than relying solely on inbound applications, including reaching out to passive candidates and leveraging your network.
  • Screening and Interviewing: Conducting first-round screens and structured interviews, generating shortlists of genuinely qualified candidates.
  • Managing Agency Relationships: Owning day-to-day contact with recruitment agencies and actively seeking ways to reduce reliance on (and spend with) them over time.
  • Giving Time Back to the Team: Taking on recruiting coordination and administrative tasks as much as possible to enable the team to focus on other priorities.
  • Candidate Experience: Ensuring every candidate, regardless of outcome, experiences a fast, clear, and well-communicated process.
  • Running Our Applicant Tracking System: Maintaining an accurate and up-to-date Ashby pipeline to provide the team with clear visibility on hiring progress.

Requirements

  • Proven Recruiting Experience, Technical-Leaning: You have run full-cycle hiring for engineering roles at a startup or scale-up and are comfortable picking up generalist roles.
  • Fluency with Engineering Roles and Stacks: You can hold credible conversations about backend, infrastructure, or security roles to effectively screen and sell candidates.
  • Strong Sourcing and Headhunting Skills: You are adept at building direct pipelines rather than waiting for inbound applications.
  • Experience Managing Agency Relationships: You know how to leverage external recruiters effectively and identify opportunities to bring hiring in-house.
  • Great Written and Verbal Communication: You provide clarity and fast responses to both candidates and hiring managers.

You'll be an amazing fit if you have:

  • Experience recruiting for developer tools, open source, or infrastructure companies.
  • Experience with Ashby or a similar modern ATS.
  • A track record of reducing agency spend by building direct pipelines.
  • Previous in-house (not just agency-side) recruiting experience.
  • An interest in staying on longer-term, as this role offers a genuine path to permanent employment.

About the Team

  • We are a small team with a flat hierarchy.
  • We encourage continuous learning and personal development.
  • Everyone operates autonomously; we trust you to get the job done but also to quickly raise your hand if you need help.
  • We care about our customers and the open-source community.
  • Being a startup, the work is challenging and fast-paced, but we also understand the importance of taking time off to recharge.

Contract Terms

This is a 3-month fixed-term contract, full-time, with a genuine possibility of converting to a permanent role based on performance and ongoing hiring needs.

Benefits

  • Generous, transparent compensation: We hire the best talent and pay to reflect that.
  • Async working: Need heads-down days or meeting-free days to stay productive? No problem!
  • Home office: We help provide equipment for a comfortable setup so you're as productive at home as you are in the office.
  • Sick leave and time off: Even on a fixed-term contract, we ensure you can take the time you need.

Our Values

  • We are proud to be open source: We believe in the open-source community and building a great free-to-use product.
  • We ship uncomfortably fast: As a startup, moving fast is key. We are pragmatic about what we build, when we build it.
  • Working autonomously: We don't tell you what to do. We decide as a team what will have the biggest impact for our customers and prioritize from that.
