Lead Data Platform & Database Engineer - TrustEngine

About TrustEngine

TrustEngine is hiring a Lead Data Platform & Database Engineer to take full ownership of our relational database estate. As the product of a merger, we operate two stacks—C#/.NET on Microsoft SQL Server, and TypeScript/JavaScript on MySQL—both hosted in AWS. Our SQL Server runs as BYOL on EC2 (an on-premises setup living in AWS), while MySQL runs on RDS.

This role sits on our Platform team as the senior technical authority on data for both engineering teams. The immediate need is someone who can hit the ground running on a time-critical OS upgrade before year-end, followed by setting the direction and standards that mature the whole environment.

What You'll Do

  • Drive deep and current Microsoft SQL Server administration as the core of the role.
  • Perform full SQL Server installation and configuration on self-managed servers (Windows Server on EC2 or on-premises), including OS-level work beneath a live production instance.
  • Handle Windows Server administration, including OS upgrades and migrations.
  • Execute SQL Server high availability, including Always On Availability Groups and failover clustering.
  • Manage MySQL administration and work within AWS (EC2, RDS, S3, IAM, CloudWatch).
  • Leverage AI proficiency (e.g., Claude) in day-to-day work.
  • Take prior end-to-end ownership of a production database estate, assessing inherited environments and driving them to a measurably better state.
  • Set data standards and review schema and data-access design across application teams.

What You'll Bring

  • 7+ years of professional experience.
  • Recent hands-on experience with SQL Server installation, configuration, and upgrades (source/target versions, in-place vs. side-by-side, Windows Server version pairings).
  • Experience with Snowflake administration and development (preferred; our data engineering team covers Snowflake day-to-day).
  • Familiarity with ETL pipelines and tools (e.g., Rivery, dbt), data warehouse design, and data lakes on S3.
  • Experience with BI/analytics tools (e.g., Metabase, QuickSight).
  • Strong foundation in data governance, data quality practices, and SQL Server migrations to managed services.

  • Salary range up to $190,000
  • 100% Remote position
  • Health Care Plan (Medical, Dental & Vision)
  • Retirement Plan (401k, IRA)
  • Life Insurance (Basic, Voluntary & AD&D)
