Lead Database & Data Platform Engineer - TrustEngine

About TrustEngine

TrustEngine is hiring a Lead Database & Data Platform Engineer to take full ownership of our relational database estate. As the product of a merger, we currently operate two distinct stacks—C#/.NET on Microsoft SQL Server, and TypeScript/JavaScript on MySQL—both hosted in AWS. Our SQL Server is BYOL on EC2 (an on-premises setup running in AWS), while MySQL runs on RDS.

This role sits on our Platform team as the senior technical authority on data for both engineering teams. Your immediate priority will be executing a time-critical OS upgrade before year-end, followed by setting the long-term direction, standards, and architecture that mature our entire data environment.

What You'll Do

  • Deep and current Microsoft SQL Server administration as the core focus of the role.
  • Recent hands-on experience with full SQL Server installation and configuration on self-managed servers (Windows Server on EC2 or on-premises), including OS-level work beneath live production instances.
  • Windows Server administration, including OS upgrades and migrations.
  • Execute SQL Server high availability strategies using Always On Availability Groups and failover clustering.
  • Administer and manage MySQL environments.
  • Work extensively with AWS infrastructure (EC2, RDS, S3, IAM, CloudWatch).
  • Leverage AI proficiency (e.g., Claude) in day-to-day operations.
  • Prior end-to-end ownership of a production database estate, including assessing inherited environments and driving measurable improvements.
  • Set data standards and review schema and data-access design across application teams.

What You'll Bring

  • 7+ years of professional engineering experience.
  • Documented experience with recent SQL Server upgrades, including source/target versions, in-place vs. side-by-side methodology, year, and Windows Server pairing.
  • Preferred Experience: Snowflake administration and development, ETL pipelines/tools (Rivery, dbt), data warehouse design, S3-based data lakes, BI/analytics tools (Metabase, QuickSight), data governance, and migrations to managed services (RDS).
