Your Impact at Versapay
Product management at Versapay is a craft that blends strategic thinking, customer empathy, and strong execution. As Senior Product Manager, Payments Gateway, you will own Versapay’s payment gateways: the platform every Versapay payment flows through, from authorization to settlement.
You will set the vision and roadmap for a modular, scalable, multi-tenant gateway that connects Versapay’s accounts receivable products to processors, acquirers, and card & bank networks. You own both the product and business outcomes for the gateways; authorization and payment success rates, uptime and latency, downgrades, cost per transaction, and more.
This is a platform role. Your customers are Versapay’s product teams, our core processing partners, the developers and ERP partners who integrate with us, and the ledger and finance teams who depend on every payment landing correctly. You will partner directly with engineering on architecture and delivery, work with go-to-market teams on positioning and regularly represent gateway strategy and performance to senior leadership, influencing direction and investment.
This is an opportunity for a product leader who has built/scaled a payment gateway and is ready to grow and modernize a global B2B payments platform.
What You'll Do:
- Own the gateway strategy and roadmap. Set the multi-year vision for Versapay’s owned gateways across card, bank, and alternative payment methods in every market we serve. Balance near-term improvements with long-term platform investments and make the trade-offs explicit.
- Drive payment performance. Own the gateway’s core KPIs: authorization and payment success rates, decline and retry performance, uptime, latency, and processing cost. Improve them through connection optimization, failover, smart retries, network tokenization, account updater, 3DS and authentication flows, and B2B card data (Level 2/3).
- Build the platform others build on. Define the gateway’s APIs, SDKs, hosted payment pages, webhooks, and merchant and MID configuration so Versapay product teams and partners can launch new payment experiences in days, not quarters.
- Own processor, acquirer, and network connectivity. Lead the evaluation, certification, and launch of processor and acquirer integrations and new network capabilities. Translate network specs and mandates into clear requirements, and keep the gateway compliant with card brand rules, PCI DSS, and regional regulations.
- Own the transaction lifecycle end to end. Authorization, capture, refunds, voids, disputes and chargebacks, and settlement, including the clean handoff of transaction data to ledger and reconciliation. Partner with risk, compliance, and payment operations to keep money moving safely.
- Lead engineering teams to deliver. Lead engineering team(s) and oversee execution across pods, from writing requirements to measuring success. Drive trade-off decisions on architecture, reliability, and platform design while keeping the team unblocked and managing the SDLC.
- Use AI to compound platform value. Apply ML and agentic approaches to retry optimization, decline analysis, anomaly detection, incident triage, and partner integration support. Versapay is rebuilding for an AI-native operating model, and the gateway is core to that.
- Be the in-house expert. Serve as Versapay’s authority on gateway architecture, payment processing, and network rules. Educate product and engineering teams, brief executives, and represent the platform externally with partners and customers.
What You Bring to the Team:
- 6+ years in payments or fintech product management, with at least 3 years owning a payment gateway, processing, orchestration, or PSP platform end to end. Senior IC who has driven a roadmap, not just contributed to one.
- Built or significantly scaled a gateway. You have shipped gateway capabilities in production — not just integrated a third-party gateway — and can speak to what changed and why.
- Deep transaction lifecycle expertise. You understand authorization flows, network messaging (ISO 8583), tokenization, capture and settlement, chargebacks, interchange, and failover, and how each affects merchants and cost.
- A record of moving payment performance metrics. You have measurably improved authorization rates, processing cost, uptime, or latency, and can show the data.
- Global payments expertise. Experience across North America and international markets, including multi-currency processing, local payment methods, and the regimes that govern them (PCI DSS, PSD2/SCA, card brand rules).
- Track record of leading engineering teams in execution. You have overseen engineering pods or squads as the product owner, setting priorities, removing blockers, making architectural trade-offs alongside engineering leadership, and shipping on commitment.
- AI fluency. Hands-on experience applying LLMs, ML, or agentic systems to payment workflows. You have a clear, defensible point of view on where AI belongs in a gateway and where it must not.
- Builder mentality. Entrepreneurial, biased to action, comfortable with ambiguity, and energized by net-new initiatives where the path is not yet drawn.
