Director, Engineering (The Americas) - Zone & Co

About the Role

Zone & Co is seeking an accomplished Director of Engineering to lead and scale our engineering teams across the Americas, overseeing our Platform Services and AI, Quote-to-Cash, and ZoneProcure teams while collaborating with engineering and product counterparts in EMEA and APAC to deliver innovative solutions for our global clients.

As a metrics-driven engineering leader with a mindset focused on removing friction and increasing efficiency across the engineering organization, this is a pivotal leadership role requiring a blend of strategic vision, hands-on technical expertise, and a passion for building high-performing teams. You will play a crucial role in shaping our engineering culture, driving AI strategy, technical excellence, and ensuring successful project delivery across regions.

What You'll Do

Leadership & Team Development

• Attract, maintain, lead, mentor, and inspire a diverse team of software engineers across the Americas and EMEA, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
• Lead transforming software delivery at Zone through the agentic SDLC, Spec-Driven Development (SDD), and the AI Software Factory model—pioneering next-generation product and engineering practices. We use Claude, Cursor, and Copilot and are always looking to use the best tools for the work.
• Collaborate closely with engineering teams in EMEA and APAC to ensure alignment on technical vision, priorities, and delivery.

Technical Excellence

• Oversee the design, development, and deployment of Zone’s Platform and AI services (Zoe) leveraged across Zone’s product portfolio, our Quote-to-Cash, and ZoneProcure products.
• Provide architectural oversight and hands-on technical leadership across Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, agentic workflows, LLM/agent frameworks (e.g., LangGraph, AgentCore), AI/ML pipelines, and managed AWS services such as AWS Bedrock, ECS, Lambda, Aurora, and DynamoDB.
• Conduct code reviews, architecture reviews, and offer technical mentorship to maintain high engineering standards.

Project & Stakeholder Management

• Ensure timely, high-quality delivery of software through effective planning and resource management.
• Collaborate closely with Product, Professional Services, Customer Success, and other cross-functional partners to translate business needs into robust, scalable solutions.
• Work in close partnership with product teams in EMEA and APAC to ensure alignment of product strategy and execution across regions.
• Serve as a senior technical contact for strategic customer relationships in the region, ensuring satisfaction and partnership growth.

Innovation & Continuous Improvement

• Champion the use of modern engineering practices, including AI-powered development tools, CI/CD, DevOps, and automated testing.
• Prioritize and drive remediation of technical debt and foundational architecture improvements.
• Continuously evaluate and refine engineering processes to improve velocity, quality, and collaboration.
• Encourage and enable R&D teams to make data-driven engineering decisions using metrics and insights to inform prioritization, quality, and process improvements.

What You'll Need

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
• 10+ years of progressive experience in software engineering, with at least 5 years in senior leadership roles, including leading remote-first teams across multiple time zones.
• Proven experience with Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, building AI/ML pipelines, agentic workflows, LLM/agent frameworks (e.g., LangGraph, AutoGen, DSPy), and AWS services including Bedrock, ECS, Lambda, and DynamoDB.
• Familiarity with modern software development practices including agentic SDLC, CI/CD, DevOps, and DevEx.
• Strong understanding of APIs (REST/SOAP), data modeling, and systems integration.
• Experience leading teams in the Americas and collaborating effectively across global regions including EMEA and APAC.
• Experience working cross-functionally with Product teams across geographies.
• Domain experience in fintech, billing, reporting, or ERP systems. Oracle NetSuite experience is a plus.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to effectively and succinctly communicate technical concepts and tradeoffs with non-technical audiences.
• Demonstrated ability to manage complex projects, budgets, and resources in a fast-paced environment.
• Exceptional problem-solving, strategic thinking, and decision-making skills.
