Remote-firstFull-timeJuniorUTC+8–+12Asia-Pacific#C##TypeScript#RustLearning

Bitwarden is a leader in identity security, providing solutions for password management, secrets management, and passwordless innovations to millions of users globally. Headquartered in Santa Barbara, California, the company operates with a globally distributed team.

The Role

As a Software Engineer on Bitwarden's Privileged Access Management (PAM) team, you will contribute to the design and development of the application stack. This system enables developers, DevOps, and cybersecurity teams to centrally store, manage, and deploy sensitive credentials. You will build upon core concepts such as secrets, projects, machine accounts, and access tokens across the product suite.

This position is ideal for an engineer early in their career who is eager to develop deep expertise across a breadth of languages and frameworks. You will begin with well-scoped tasks and progressively take on larger, more independent ownership, with senior engineers providing guidance on design, review, and complex system aspects.

What You Will Do

  • Feature Delivery: Build well-scoped parts of features across the API, web client, and SDK. Grow into larger, more independent contributions as you become more familiar with the codebase.
  • Learning the Security Model: Work within a zero-knowledge architecture, understanding its design principles, how secrets are encrypted, what the server can access, and how machine accounts are authenticated. Asking questions is encouraged and considered part of the job.
  • Automated Quality: Write tests alongside your code and help maintain automated suites and CI/CD pipelines to ensure safe and continuous shipping.
  • Code Review: Participate in pull request reviews, act on feedback received, and learn from teammates' changes as a rapid way to understand a large codebase.
  • Operational Support: Contribute to maintaining the health of services in production.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with Product, Design, and fellow engineers to understand project goals and rationale, raising questions and risks early.
  • Documentation: Keep internal architecture notes, API contracts, and public open-source developer documentation accurate as you work on the corresponding code.
  • AI-Assisted Development: Effectively use AI coding assistants, ensuring a thorough understanding of every line of code shipped. Generated code will be reviewed with the same rigor as your own.
