About the Role

Canonical is seeking a Software Engineer for Distributed Systems Testing to help build and validate resilient, multi-cloud deployable applications. You will drive quality engineering by applying deep engineering insights and a data-driven approach to test automation, reporting, and analytics.

Our team is responsible for the quality of cloud solutions including Juju, Terraform, OpenStack, and Kubernetes, testing across environments ranging from bare metal to public clouds like AWS, GCE, and Azure.

Key Responsibilities

  • Create automated testing approaches and infrastructure for validating the reliability, performance, and resilience of cloud orchestration tools.
  • Enable engineering teams across Canonical to develop software with confidence by providing distributed system testing tooling.
  • Enhance CI pipelines for deploying and testing cloud-native products like Kubeflow.
  • Deploy, manage, and debug highly distributed systems on clouds and bare metal.
  • Monitor and report on automated testing efforts.
  • Collaborate daily with a globally distributed team.

What We Are Looking For

  • Solid background in modern test processes and strategies.
  • Experience with Python or Go development.
  • Strong object-oriented development skills.
  • Working knowledge of CI tools (e.g., Jenkins, CircleCI, GitHub Actions).
  • Knowledge of networking technologies and Linux system architecture.
  • Ability to engage in complex abstract thinking.
  • Willingness to travel internationally 2-4 weeks per year.

Nice-to-Have Skills

  • Experience shipping modern production-grade web applications.
  • Ability to operate data platforms (key-value stores, relational/document databases, event buses).
  • Data collection and analytics skills for large multidimensional datasets.
  • Experience with AI/ML pipelines.
  • Cloud technology experience (OpenStack, Kubernetes, Terraform, AWS).
