About the Role

Canonical is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead our Ceph & Distributed Storage team. You will be responsible for driving the development of software-defined storage solutions that make Ceph accessible and efficient for environments ranging from large enterprise data centers to edge sites.

What You’ll Do

  • Team Leadership: Build and manage a globally distributed team of engineers, focusing on coaching, mentoring, and professional development.
  • Technical Strategy: Contribute directly to engineering goals while ensuring sound software architecture, quality, testing, and documentation standards.
  • Delivery: Set reasonable schedules, manage expectations with stakeholders, and facilitate technical delivery using modern agile practices.
  • Culture: Foster a healthy, collaborative engineering culture aligned with company values.
  • Collaboration: Act as an active member of the leadership team and work cross-functionally with other organizational leaders.
  • Travel: Participate in global travel up to 20% for internal and external events.

Who You Are

  • Technical Background: Strong software engineering foundation, preferably with experience in Python and C++.
  • Domain Expertise: Proven experience operating scale-out storage clusters on Linux in production environments, with a strong preference for Ceph.
  • Management Experience: Demonstrated track record of leading, coaching, and mentoring software developers to deliver high-quality software.
  • Agile Mindset: Solid experience working within agile development environments.
  • Passion: A drive to build products that improve how infrastructure and software are operated globally.
