
About the Role
Canonical is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead teams within our Commercial Systems unit. You will be responsible for the development of internal products, maintaining high engineering standards, and fostering the growth of your direct reports. This role is pivotal in supporting Canonical's global growth through innovative open-source solutions.
Commercial Systems Teams
- Billing: Develops Golang services for scalable billing, payment processing, and metric integration.
- Business Systems: Manages internal platforms like NetSuite and Salesforce, ensuring compliance and operational efficiency.
- Data Governance: Enables secure data access using tools like Trino and Ranger within a data mesh architecture.
- Livepatch: Develops Golang-based components for critical Linux kernel security patch delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and mentor a team of software engineers.
- Maintain accountability for the design and development of internal products.
- Continuously improve processes, system designs, and technical solutions.
- Align engineering output with business needs to maximize impact.
Requirements
- Exceptional academic track record (High School and University).
- Undergraduate degree in a technical field or equivalent professional experience.
- Proven track record of exceeding expectations and delivering results.
- Proficiency in a high-level language (e.g., Golang, Python, Java).
- Excellent written and spoken English with strong presentation skills.
- Ability to travel internationally twice a year for company events (up to two weeks).
Nice-to-Have Skills
- Experience in performance engineering or SRE.
- Background in data governance, data engineering, or data science.
- Experience with accounting, sales operations, or business-facing roles.
