Engineering Manager for IAM (Identity and Access Management) - Canonical

About the Role

Canonical is seeking an Engineering Manager for Identity and Access Management (IAM) to lead the development of high-performing Go and Python services. You will define the technical vision for identity solutions used across Canonical’s product suite, including Ubuntu One SSO, Juju, LXD, and MAAS.

Responsibilities

• Lead and hire a high-performing software engineering team.
• Collaborate with product management to define technical vision and manage the team backlog.
• Design and implement complex, distributed systems that can be deployed on bare metal, public cloud, and Kubernetes.
• Provide code reviews, technical guidance, and mentorship to team members.
• Participate in the full software development lifecycle, including design, coding, testing, documentation, and troubleshooting.
• Engage with broader open source communities through hackfests, webinars, and conferences.

What We Are Looking For

• Proven experience leading high-performance software engineering teams.
• Proficiency in Go and Python development.
• Strong expertise in container technology and Kubernetes.
• Deep understanding of software/infrastructure security, performance, and distributed systems.
• Exceptional academic track record (high school and university).
• Undergraduate degree in a technical subject or equivalent professional experience.
• Excellent interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills.
• Ability to travel internationally twice a year for company events (up to two weeks per trip).
• Knowledge of IAM technologies and standards is a plus.
