About the Role
Canonical is hiring 2025 and 2026 Graduate Software Engineers to join our global engineering teams. You will work across the entire open source stack—from low-level Linux kernel, firmware, and bootloaders to cloud infrastructure, Kubernetes, and desktop applications. This is a highly competitive, full-time role for high-performing graduates who are passionate about open source.
Key Responsibilities
- Shape product roadmaps during global sprints held every six months.
- Design and develop high-quality, resilient, and performant code for global enterprise users.
- Master key programming languages (Python, Golang, Rust, C/C++, JavaScript) and Linux system internals.
- Engage with the open source community via code reviews and issue trackers.
- Address customer requirements and contribute to software security design.
What We Are Looking For
- Exceptional academic track record (High School and University).
- Undergraduate degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, or a related STEM discipline.
- Proficiency in at least one of: Python, Rust, C/C++, Golang, JavaScript, or Java.
- Experience with Ubuntu or other Linux distributions.
- Evidence of personal projects beyond the academic curriculum.
- Strong interpersonal skills, accountability, and a drive to exceed expectations.
- Ability to travel internationally twice a year for company sprints (up to two weeks per trip).
Nice-to-Have Skills
- Upstream open source contributions.
- Experience with packaging (Debian, Fedora, Arch, Nix).
- Leadership, organization, and presentation skills.
