Open Source Networking Software Engineer - ToR Switch / SmartNIC / DPU

About the Role

Software is central to modern network technology. We are building teams to bring the best open-source networking software to market, creating an integrated stack that brings hyperscaler innovation to enterprise customers. You will work with networking silicon providers to optimize Ubuntu for ASICs, boards, and appliances, covering everything from bare metal to virtualization, containers, and serverless.

What You Will Do

• Work with advanced operating systems and network application technologies.
• Participate upstream and deliver the Ubuntu SoNIC stack.
• Collaborate with public clouds and network silicon providers.
• Design and implement software-defined networking for the data center.
• Write high-quality, secure, and well-documented software.
• Debug issues and produce high-quality fixes.
• Contribute to technical documentation and display technical leadership.
• Influence open-source projects and communities.
• Work from home with global travel twice a year for company events.

What We Are Looking For

• Exceptional academic track record with an undergraduate degree in Computer Science or STEM (or a compelling alternative path).
• Strong knowledge of networking architecture, design, and protocols.
• Deep understanding of Linux networking (kernel to user space).
• Fluency in C/C++ and at least one of Rust, Python, or Golang.
• Professional written and spoken English.
• Excellent interpersonal skills, curiosity, and accountability.
• Ability to travel twice a year for up to two weeks.

Preferred Skills

• Familiarity with SONIC/SAI, eBPF, AF_XDP, DPDK, Switchdev, OVN, or Open vSwitch.
• Knowledge of data path hardware acceleration (RDMA, RoCE, iWARP, NVMe, SR-IOV).
• Computer architecture knowledge (x86, ARM, RISC-V).
• Experience with virtualization (QEMU, KVM) and complex IP network engineering.
• Previous open-source contributions and performance engineering experience.
