Project Manager - Ubuntu Embedded Systems

About the Role

As a Project Manager for Canonical’s Devices business, you will be responsible for the coordination and delivery of complex, customer-facing projects. You will act as the primary liaison between Canonical's engineering teams and our global customers, overseeing the delivery of Ubuntu images across a diverse range of hardware, including robots, edge gateways, IoT devices, PCs, and automotive systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage projects through their complete life cycle, ensuring goals are met within scope, time, and resource constraints.
  • Deliver engineering professional services, including custom board enablement and Ubuntu image deployment.
  • Draft and maintain project schedules, plans, and statements of work (SOWs).
  • Manage project risk mitigation and drive technical issues to resolution.
  • Maintain consistent communication with clients, internal stakeholders, and third-party vendors (Silicon vendors, OEMs, ODMs, IHVs).
  • Identify custom engineering requests outside of existing contracts.
  • Advocate for Canonical’s product portfolio technologies to customers.
  • Support different time zones and work non-traditional hours as required.

What We Are Looking For

  • Solid project management experience delivering engineering services and managing software development teams.
  • Extensive experience managing cross-cultural, multi-continent project resources (Asia, Europe, and the Americas).
  • Educational background in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math).
  • Strong knowledge of Linux, the Open Source Software community, and computer architecture.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Proven ability to build partnerships with demanding project sponsors in complex environments.
  • PMP/PMI or PRINCE2 Practitioner Certification preferred.
  • Willingness to travel up to 4 times a year for internal events.
