Software Engineer - Cross-platform C++ - Multipass

About the Role

Canonical is looking for a Software Engineer to join the Multipass team. Multipass is a workstation mini-cloud that provides Ubuntu and appliance VMs on demand for build, test, and prototyping. As a member of our distributed team, you will play a leadership role in designing, mentoring, reviewing, and coding.

What You Will Focus On

• Ensure Multipass is intuitive and easy to use.
• Architect new features and design user experiences.
• Write high-quality code and perform code/architecture reviews.
• Debug, track, and resolve user-reported issues.
• Collaborate proactively within a distributed team.
• Foster the open source community and support customers.
• Travel internationally for company events up to two weeks, twice a year.

Requirements

• Expertise in modern C++ (C++14 minimum).
• Cross-platform development experience on macOS and/or Windows.
• Experience with software testing and test-driven development.
• Knowledge of hypervisor technologies (Hyper-V, VirtualBox, KVM, QEMU).
• Open source experience and involvement.
• Excellent communication skills in English.
• Bachelor’s or equivalent degree in Computer Science, STEM, or a related field.
• Knowledge of CI systems is a plus.
