About the Role

Canonical is seeking a passionate Software Engineer to join our team focused on Edge AI. You will play a key role in developing secure, easy-to-deploy, and customizable edge AI solutions, with a specific focus on Inference Snaps. You will work on silicon-optimized application packages for AI/ML inference, targeting everything from embedded systems to powerful gateways.

What You’ll Do

  • Collaborate proactively within a distributed team environment.
  • Develop and maintain open-source AI/ML inference application packages.
  • Debug complex issues and produce high-quality, maintainable code.
  • Review code produced by upstream contributors and fellow engineers.
  • Experiment with Ubuntu Core to showcase industry-grade Edge AI solutions.
  • Secure deployment of AI inference platforms on Linux.
  • Build optimized AI solutions for local inferencing on Ubuntu.
  • Work from home with global travel (2 to 4 weeks per year) for internal and external events.

Who You Are

  • 3+ years of professional software development experience using Go or C++.
  • Strong experience developing applications for Linux.
  • Familiarity with several of the following:
    • Containers (Docker, Kubernetes)
    • Packaging (Snap, Debian, or RPM)
    • Bash scripting
    • CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, GitLab CI)
    • Local AI/ML inference frameworks
    • Hardware accelerators (GPU, NPU)
  • Excellent communication skills and a self-motivated, enterprising mindset.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Computer Science, STEM, or a related field.
