
About the Role
Canonical is seeking a passionate Software Engineer to join our team focused on Edge AI. You will play a key role in developing secure, easy-to-deploy, and customizable edge AI solutions, with a specific focus on Inference Snaps. You will work on silicon-optimized application packages for AI/ML inference, targeting everything from embedded systems to powerful gateways.
What You’ll Do
- Collaborate proactively within a distributed team environment.
- Develop and maintain open-source AI/ML inference application packages.
- Debug complex issues and produce high-quality, maintainable code.
- Review code produced by upstream contributors and fellow engineers.
- Experiment with Ubuntu Core to showcase industry-grade Edge AI solutions.
- Secure deployment of AI inference platforms on Linux.
- Build optimized AI solutions for local inferencing on Ubuntu.
- Work from home with global travel (2 to 4 weeks per year) for internal and external events.
Who You Are
- 3+ years of professional software development experience using Go or C++.
- Strong experience developing applications for Linux.
- Familiarity with several of the following:
- Containers (Docker, Kubernetes)
- Packaging (Snap, Debian, or RPM)
- Bash scripting
- CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, GitLab CI)
- Local AI/ML inference frameworks
- Hardware accelerators (GPU, NPU)
- Excellent communication skills and a self-motivated, enterprising mindset.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Computer Science, STEM, or a related field.
