About the Role

Canonical is a growing international software company that works with the open-source community to deliver Ubuntu. The Commercial Engineering Quality Assurance (QA) team works with engineering teams, OEM, and ODM customers to bring Ubuntu to millions of users by delivering certified Ubuntu laptop, desktop, IoT, and computing devices.

As a Software QA Engineer, you will join the team responsible for our strategy for quality coordination and testing. You will be a quality expert with experience establishing quality processes from the ground up, working across the company to drive improvements through the entire development cycle.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan, create, and manage the overall Quality Planning strategy and documentation.
  • Improve automated test capabilities through design and code contributions.
  • Perform automated and manual testing of Ubuntu Desktop, Server, and Core on the latest hardware.
  • Suggest solutions to identified product problems and identify process bottlenecks.
  • Collaborate with the Project team to ensure consistent project execution.
  • Oversee continuous improvement projects and collect quality data.
  • Establish proactive measures to improve the quality and reliability of the Ubuntu platform.
  • Prepare time estimates and schedules for testing activities.
  • Identify, isolate, and document bugs clearly in the bug database.
  • Triage test reports and customer bugs.
  • Communicate effectively with colleagues across global time zones.

Requirements

  • Experience with Linux desktop and related technologies (Ubuntu experience is a plus).
  • Solid grasp of commercial Software QA practices and integration with Linux Community standards.
  • Proficiency in scripting languages such as Shell, Python, or JavaScript.
  • Comfortable with online communication tools (mailing lists, Mattermost, wiki).
  • Excellent logic, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills.
  • Strong written and spoken English communication skills.
  • Ability to be productive in a globally distributed team.
  • Ability to quickly learn and achieve effectiveness with new technologies.
