Staff Software Engineer for Identity Management (Go/Golang) - Canonical

About the Role

Canonical is hiring a Staff-level Software Engineer for Identity Management to lead authorization and access management initiatives across our suite of enterprise products and web services. You will modernize and expand our identity solutions, directly impacting the users of Ubuntu and Canonical's global platforms.

Key Responsibilities

  • Technical Leadership: Collaborate with a distributed team to lead technical efforts, strategy, and execution.
  • Development: Write clean web service APIs using Go (Golang) and Python to support CLI and web frontend clients.
  • System Design: Design and implement new features from specification to production, ensuring scalability and reliability.
  • Operational Excellence: Write Juju charms (operators) to manage operational concerns.
  • Identity Modernization: Drive the adoption of best-of-breed IAM technologies (e.g., OpenID, OAuth, LDAP).
  • Quality Assurance: Review code, set quality standards, and maintain a culture of engineering excellence.
  • Collaboration: Participate in global team meetings, including 2–4 weeks of international travel per year for company events.

What We Are Looking For

  • Experience: Staff-level or experienced senior software engineer with a background in building identity and access management products.
  • Technical Proficiency: Strong knowledge of identity standards and protocols (OpenID, OAuth, LDAP) and experience implementing authorization frameworks in distributed systems.
  • Languages: Proficiency in Go (Golang) and Python.
  • Platform: Comfort with Ubuntu as a development and deployment environment.
  • Communication: Exceptional written and spoken English with strong presentation and interpersonal skills.
  • Education: Undergraduate degree in a technical subject or a compelling narrative of an alternative path.
