Technical Manager - Automotive and Industrial

About the Role

Canonical is seeking a Technical Manager for our Automotive and Industrial division. You will lead a team of engineers dedicated to adapting our products to meet stringent industry requirements, bridging the gap between open-source innovation and industrial-grade certification.

You will represent Canonical and Ubuntu within the automotive community and standards consortia, ensuring our Linux distribution and development practices align with safety and security standards such as IEC 61508, ISO 21434, ISO 26262, and ASPICE.

What You’ll Do

• Strategy & Roadmap: Collaborate with Product Management to define and execute the engineering vision for the automotive sector.
• Team Leadership: Build, lead, and mentor a globally distributed team of engineers, fostering a healthy and collaborative culture.
• Technical Advocacy: Represent Ubuntu and Canonical in front of customers, partners, and industry standards bodies.
• Compliance & Quality: Ensure our Linux distribution and software delivery processes meet automotive safety and security requirements.
• Operational Excellence: Advance modern, agile software development practices and oversee the execution of the engineering roadmap.
• Travel: Participate in international company events (sprints) approximately twice a year for up to two weeks at a time.

Who You Are

• Technical Background: Strong foundation in software engineering, Linux, and open-source development.
• Domain Expertise: In-depth knowledge of Linux packaging, embedded systems, and automotive industry standards (ISO 21434, ISO 26262, SOTIF, IEC 61508).
• Programming Skills: Proficiency in C/C++ and Python.
• Leadership: Proven track record of leading, coaching, and mentoring software developers in an agile environment.
• Communication: Ability to set expectations with senior management and external stakeholders.
