
The Role
As a Telecommunications Field Engineer at Canonical, you will lead customers through the design and delivery of OpenStack, Kubernetes, and software-defined networking solutions. You will help operators and communications service providers navigate the shift to software-defined services, focusing on platforms like Ubuntu, OpenStack, and Kubernetes to meet the demands of 5G, sovereign AI, and beyond.
What You Will Do
- Translate Service Provider requirements into practical telco cloud platform architectures (VNF/CNF, NFV, MEC).
- Provide technical pre-sales consulting to Service Provider teams.
- Design and implement telco-grade open source multi-tenant private clouds and micro clouds.
- Investigate, report, and fix software defects uncovered during customer deployments.
- Demonstrate advanced Infrastructure as Code (IaC) techniques.
- Architect and implement resilient Service Provider Cloud and Application solutions.
- Support customer tenant onboarding and drive successful production readiness.
- Shape the product roadmap based on customer engagements.
What We Are Looking For
- Thorough technical understanding of telco NFVi (VIM), NFVO, VNFM, and MEC space.
- Expertise in infrastructure technologies: CPU Pinning, NUMA, SR-IOV, DPDK, etc.
- Working knowledge of at least one domain: Mobile Packet Core (4G/5G), Private Network, RAN, Voice, IP Backbone, VAS, or OSS/BSS.
- Proficiency in Linux, Networking, OpenStack, and Kubernetes.
- Python software development experience for automation.
- Ability to lead complex projects from start to finish.
- Collaborative, customer-centric mindset.
- Ability to travel up to 25% of the time for events and customer meetings.
Preferred Qualifications
- Fluency in a second language (Spanish, Portuguese, or French).
- Track record of open source contributions.
- Understanding of AI/ML concepts (sovereign AI, predictive maintenance, etc.).
- Exposure to frameworks such as 3GPP, TM Forum ODA, eTOM, ETSI NFV, ONAP, or O-RAN.
