Web Developer - Canonical

About the Role

Canonical is looking for a Web Developer to join our multi-disciplinary web team. You will work alongside visual designers, UX designers, and developers to build and maintain high-fidelity websites and web applications that support our mission of making open-source software accessible to everyone.

Responsibilities

• Create high-fidelity websites and web apps using HTML, SCSS, JavaScript, React, and TypeScript.
• Maintain existing projects, update content, and implement new pages.
• Manage incoming update requests and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
• Ensure output consistency across our product portfolio and compliance with our web style guide.
• Contribute to our living style guide, the Vanilla Framework.
• Work closely with UX and visual designers to implement exemplary user experiences.

Required Skills & Experience

• Demonstrable experience working on modern web applications.
• Strong understanding of HTML, CSS (SCSS), and JavaScript.
• Experience with JavaScript component libraries and TypeScript.
• Proficiency in building responsive user interfaces for various devices and browsers.
• Experience with Git or other version control systems.
• Strong understanding of web performance and accessibility best practices.
• Awareness of SEO best practices.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with UX, designers, and server-side developers.
• Based in EMEA timezones.
• University degree or equivalent education.

Useful Experience

• Familiarity with Linux desktop technologies.
• Knowledge of server-side languages (Python or NodeJS).
• Experience with large-scale React/TypeScript projects.
• History of open-source contributions.
