The Position

Our Ascend® platform represents the next generation of our delivery capability—a standardized, scalable implementation model that enables faster, higher-quality client onboarding across our specialty pharmacy data ecosystem.

The Associate Business Analyst is a technical executor of the Ascend platform configuration. The top expectation of this role is the ability to lead and manage spec negotiations with data partners, ensuring inbound and outbound data file specifications align with the Ascend data model before configuration begins. This requires deep technical fluency in specialty pharmacy data structures and strong communication skills.

Working from the Configuration Blueprint produced by the Delivery Director, the Associate BA owns all data mapping, platform configuration, and internal quality assurance before client-facing testing begins. This role is primarily remote with occasional travel requirements.

Key Accountabilities

Data Partner Spec Negotiation (Primary Accountability)

  • Lead spec negotiations with specialty pharmacy and data partners to align inbound/outbound file specifications with the Ascend data model.
  • Review partner-submitted specifications for completeness, field-level accuracy, and model alignment; document gaps and drive resolution directly with partners.
  • Negotiate field mappings, list-of-values (LOVs), file formats, and delivery cadences, escalating to Engagement Managers only when necessary.
  • Validate test files against finalized specifications, maintain spec versions, and flag discrepancies before data enters the pipeline.
  • Translate data partner constraints into actionable decisions (configuration vs. spec exception vs. Customer Engineering build).

Platform Configuration & Data Mapping

  • Own platform configuration work: data mapping, tooling setup, business logic implementation, and front-end reporting.
  • Review data specifications, proactively flagging data model mismatches prior to configuration.
  • Load data into the pipeline using configuration tooling once specifications are finalized and signed off.
  • Collaborate with Customer Engineering on handoffs for standard data model onboarding and custom builds.

Internal QA & Quality Standards

  • Conduct internal QA testing for configuration work; advance nothing to UAT without BA sign-off.
  • Track and resolve defects identified during internal QA and UAT.
  • Perform quality control to ensure configurations meet acceptance criteria prior to go-live.
  • Maintain QA documentation, test case frameworks, and checklists.

Escalation & Request Routing

  • Determine if client requests fit standard models, require configuration adjustments, or need escalation to Product or Customer Engineering.
  • Document and route non-standard requests with clear technical context.
  • Perform change impact analysis on updates or non-standard requests.

Cross-Functional Coordination & Process Management

  • Consult with Engagement Managers on partner specs, testing timelines, and UAT scheduling.
  • Report blockers, capacity constraints, and bandwidth risks proactively.
  • Facilitate schema normalization of system databases; maintain data dictionaries and file inventories.
  • Write clear procedures and develop an operating playbook to support internal training as the team scales.
