
About the Role
Cloudflare is seeking an experienced Associate General Counsel to join our team in London. You will oversee the Office of the Data Protection Officer, managing our privacy program and ensuring compliance with global data protection laws, including GDPR. Additionally, you will lead our responsible AI program and navigate compliance requirements for emerging regulations like the EU AI Act.
This role reports to the Chief Privacy Officer and requires a proactive, strategic thinker who can collaborate effectively with non-legal teams to implement privacy-by-design and AI governance.
Responsibilities
- Regulatory Expertise: Serve as the subject matter expert on AI and data protection regulations in the EMEA region (EU, UK, Switzerland, UAE).
- Data Governance: Advise on cross-border data transfers, privacy-by-design policies, and data subject requests.
- AI Compliance: Oversee the responsible AI program, including AI impact assessments and vendor reviews.
- Commercial & Corporate Support: Assist with data processing addendums (DPAs) for commercial transactions and provide privacy due diligence for M&A activities.
- Incident Response: Advise on legal requirements and communications regarding security and privacy incidents.
- Documentation: Create playbooks and FAQ libraries to provide clear, actionable guidance to cross-functional teams.
Requirements
- Qualifications: LLB/JD equivalent; admitted to practice in a relevant jurisdiction (US or UK-qualified preferred).
- Experience: 10+ years of legal experience, ideally with a mix of in-house technology experience and top-tier law firm practice.
- Expertise: Deep knowledge of EMEA-region AI and privacy laws.
- Soft Skills: Solution-oriented mindset, strong communication skills, and the ability to translate complex legal concepts for non-lawyers.
- Technical Aptitude: A passion for technology and a willingness to work flexibly with a globally distributed team.
