Distributed Systems Engineer - Data Platform

About the Role

Cloudflare is seeking experienced engineers to join our Data Organization. You will build and maintain high-performance, scalable systems that process over a billion events per second, powering critical logs and analytics for our global network.

Key Focus Areas

• Data Delivery: Build and operate high-throughput, low-latency pipelines (primarily in Go) for ingesting and routing global network data.
• Analytical Database Platform: Contribute to our core platform powered by ClickHouse, optimized for immense analytical workloads.
• Data Retrieval: Develop customer-facing products, including GraphQL APIs, log delivery solutions, and real-time alerting systems.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable distributed systems across the data lifecycle.
• Optimize high-throughput delivery platforms for integrity and low latency.
• Scale and monitor large-scale database clusters.
• Enhance GraphQL APIs and alerting solutions for reliability and performance.
• Collaborate with the ClickHouse open-source community.
• Identify and remove bottlenecks across the data stack.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of experience in software development, specifically with distributed systems and databases.
• Strong programming skills: Proficiency in Golang is highly preferred.
• Observability: Hands-on experience with Prometheus, Grafana, and high-cardinality metrics.
• Database Expertise: Strong knowledge of SQL and database internals.
• Computer Science Foundation: Solid understanding of algorithms, data structures, and concurrency.
• Bonus Skills: Experience with ClickHouse, Kafka, Flink, GraphQL, Infrastructure as Code (Terraform/SALT), and Docker/Kubernetes.
