Senior Director of Engineering, Billing Platform - Cloudflare

About the Role

Cloudflare's billing platform is a critical component of our product monetization, customer experience, and financial operations. We are seeking a Senior Director of Engineering to lead the organization responsible for our billing platform and quote-to-cash systems. You will own the technical strategy, organizational design, and operational health of systems supporting usage-based billing, subscriptions, payments, tax, and financial reconciliation.

What You'll Do

• Strategy & Execution: Own the multi-year engineering roadmap for billing and quote-to-cash integrations.
• Leadership: Lead and develop a distributed organization of engineering managers and senior technical leaders.
• Architecture: Drive platform architecture to improve correctness, scalability, reliability, and auditability.
• Operational Excellence: Strengthen financial data integrity and improve observability, SLOs, and incident response for billing-critical services.
• Cross-functional Partnership: Collaborate with Finance, Product, Revenue Operations, Legal, and Sales to turn business requirements into durable systems.
• Decision Making: Make pragmatic build vs. buy decisions regarding payment processors, ERP, and CRM integrations.

Desirable Skills & Experience

• 15+ years of software engineering experience, including 7+ years leading teams and 3+ years managing managers.
• Deep experience in billing, fintech, or financial platforms where auditability is mandatory.
• Strong technical judgment in distributed systems, SaaS platforms, and cloud-native infrastructure.
• Proven ability to define and execute multi-year platform strategies.
• Familiarity with Stripe, Salesforce, ERP systems, and tax engines.
• Practical AI fluency: ability to leverage AI tools to accelerate engineering work and improve operational leverage.
