About the Role
The Egress team owns a critical aspect of Cloudflare's Connectivity Cloud: egress connectivity for our vast portfolio of products. You will lead a distributed team building and operating cutting-edge network software infrastructure, including Dedicated Egress IP Connectivity, WARP, Cloudflare One/Zero Trust, and the egress proxy for iCloud Private Relay.
Responsibilities
- Team Leadership: Hire, mentor, and coach a distributed team of Software and Systems Engineers, shaping team culture and technical vision.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with Product Managers and engineering leaders to define roadmaps and achieve objectives.
- Technical Oversight: Influence scope and design across distributed network infrastructure, from data planes to control-plane services.
- Operational Excellence: Manage on-call rotations, handle customer escalations, and drive reliability and automation improvements.
- Project Management: Utilize tools and processes to track status, resolve blockers, and ensure predictable delivery.
Desirable Skills & Experience
- 5+ years of experience as an Engineering Manager for Software and Systems Engineers.
- Proven track record in hiring, onboarding, and professional development.
- Strong planning and execution skills with a focus on predictability.
- Experience or interest in Layer 3/Layer 4 networking and network performance tuning.
- Proficiency in monitoring, alerting, and debugging distributed systems.
- Experience managing on-call rotations for production services.
- Willingness to integrate AI tools into engineering workflows.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
