Senior Forward Deployed Engineer - Cloudflare

About the Role

As a Senior Forward Deployed Engineer (FDE), you will act as a hands-on, consultative build partner to Cloudflare's most strategic customers. You will work shoulder-to-shoulder with engineering teams to shape architecture, prototype solutions, and unblock complex technical challenges to help them scale on the Cloudflare platform.

This is a one-to-many role where you will leverage patterns and reference implementations across a portfolio of customers, acting as a technical force multiplier.

What You'll Do

• Technical Partnership: Drive engagements from idea to launch for strategic customers.
• Architectural Guidance: Shape scalable, resilient architectures and provide design direction to prevent bottlenecks.
• Hands-on Development: Prototype, configure, and build reference implementations alongside customer teams.
• Code Review: Share best practices to improve the quality, performance, and security of customer applications.
• Problem Solving: Diagnose and resolve complex technical issues across the full stack.
• Product Feedback: Surface real-world edge cases and product gaps to Cloudflare's internal Product and Engineering teams.
• Technical Leadership: Establish trusted relationships with Staff+ engineers, Directors, and VPs.

Desirable Skills & Experience

• Engineering Pedigree: 7+ years of professional software engineering experience with a track record of delivering production-grade systems.
• Operational Maturity: Experience owning mission-critical services, including on-call rotations and incident response.
• Active Practitioner: Strong coding skills with a "ship-first" mentality; current with modern frameworks and deployment patterns.
• Full-Stack Depth: Fluency across frontend, backend, database optimization, and distributed infrastructure.
• AI-Native Development: Experience integrating AI-augmented workflows (e.g., Windsurf, OpenCode) into development cycles.
• Cloud Fluency: Deep experience with AWS, GCP, or Azure, including serverless, networking, and security primitives.
• Executive Presence: Ability to translate complex engineering trade-offs into business impact for senior stakeholders.

Bonus Points

• Direct experience building on Cloudflare Workers or the Cloudflare Developer Platform.
• Previous experience in a customer-facing engineering role.
• A visible public profile (open-source contributions, technical blogging, or speaking engagements).
