Senior Software Engineer, Deploy at Scale

About the Role

As a Senior Software Engineer in the Deploy@Scale team, you will provide technical leadership for the platform that powers safe, reliable, and automated deployments across Cloudflare. This is a senior individual contributor role where you will set technical direction across multiple work streams.

Key Responsibilities

• Operate with significant autonomy to identify problems and drive multi-year architecture decisions.
• Influence how dozens of engineering teams approach safe change management.
• Partner with leadership to shape the multi-quarter roadmap.
• Act as a primary technical voice in cross-team design reviews, RFCs, and incident retrospectives.
• Elevate the team through design reviews, pairing, and mentorship.

Where We Are Heading

• Machine-in-the-loop: Moving toward fully automated, health-mediated deployments at scale (hundreds of thousands of releases daily).
• Platform Consolidation: Unifying release orchestration, health mediation, feature flagging, and configuration rollback.
• AI Integration: Defining how AI assists both the platform and the engineers operating it.

Desirable Skills & Experience

• 8+ years of hands-on software engineering experience with complex, distributed, production-critical systems.
• Demonstrated technical leadership: driving RFCs and design reviews that teams rely on.
• Strong judgment for ambiguity and defining roadmaps in undefined environments.
• Deep experience with safety, observability, and automation (rollback paths, health signals, guardrails).
• Ability to influence technical direction across team boundaries without direct authority.
• Comfort with AI-assisted development and critical evaluation of AI-generated output.
• Experience with workflow orchestration or large-scale distributed systems is a plus.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
