Senior Systems Engineer - Cloudflare

About the Role

We are looking for a talented Distributed Systems Engineer to join the Data Localization team. You will build the infrastructure that enforces where customer data is stored, processed, and decrypted across one of the world's largest edge networks. You will work across the full stack in Go and Rust, owning the design, implementation, and production operation of systems that maintain provable geographic boundaries at scale.

What You'll Do

• Design, build, and operate production distributed systems at scale.
• Work across the full stack, from low-level policy enforcement and cryptographic key routing to customer-facing APIs.
• Own the end-to-end lifecycle of features, including rollout and production maintenance.
• Collaborate with a team that values AI-assisted development and iterative problem-solving.

Responsibilities

• 8+ years of professional experience in distributed systems.
• Proficiency in Go, Rust, or C/C++.
• Deep understanding of distributed systems fundamentals: consistency models (Paxos/Raft), replication, sharding, and failure modes (network partitions, clock skew).
• Expertise in system design: idempotency, retries, backpressure, and observability.
• Experience with API design (REST/gRPC), relational databases, and event streaming.
• Strong track record of production ownership, including on-call and incident response.

Nice-to-Have Skills

• Experience with compliance-driven or security-sensitive systems.
• Familiarity with cryptography (envelope encryption, HSMs, PKI).
• Exposure to edge, CDN, or L4/L7 proxy platforms.
• Experience driving multi-team engineering programs.
