Senior Systems Engineer, Cloudflare Data Platform - Cloudflare

About the Role

As a Senior Systems Engineer on the Cloudflare Data Platform team, you will shape the future of our storage and database products. You will work on the R2 Data Catalog and R2 SQL, building solutions that leverage our global network to solve petabyte-scale data challenges.

What You'll Do

• Architect globally distributed data consistency models.
• Optimize storage engine performance and design novel APIs for data-centric products.
• Own your code from inception to release across the full software stack.
• Collaborate using languages including Rust, TypeScript, Go, and C++.

Desirable Skills & Experience

• 6+ years of experience in distributed systems.
• Proven track record of managing high-volume software applications.
• Strong grasp of computer science fundamentals (data structures, algorithms, design patterns).
• Proficiency in at least one modern strongly-typed language (Rust, TypeScript, or Go).
• Expertise in debugging and optimizing large-scale distributed systems.

Bonus Points

• Experience with large-scale data storage platforms.
• Background in low-latency, real-time environments (e.g., game engines, high-frequency trading, payment systems).
• Deep knowledge of Linux/UNIX systems.
• Experience with non-garbage collected languages like Rust or C++.
