Systems Engineer, Network Automation - Cloudflare

About the Role

Cloudflare operates a massive global network spanning hundreds of data centers. We are looking for a Systems Engineer to join our Network Automation team to build software solutions that improve network resilience and reduce operational toil.

You will work on a range of tools, infrastructure, and services—both new and existing—to deliver practical, maintainable, and scalable solutions. We value candidates who leverage AI tools and automated assistants to streamline workflows and solve complex problems.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop software components for network automation.
• Build and maintain tools to improve network resilience.
• Collaborate with the team to ship improvements and share knowledge.
• Utilize AI-native curiosity to identify and solve "normalized" problems.

Desirable Skills & Experience

• BA/BS in Computer Science or equivalent experience.
• 3+ years of experience in software development for network automation.
• Proficiency in Python and Golang.
• Strong understanding of software design patterns and principles.
• Experience with modern Unix/Linux distributions.
• Proficiency with SQL (MySQL, Postgres, or Clickhouse).
• Experience with CI/CD, containers, and virtualization.
• Familiarity with observability systems (Prometheus, Grafana).
• Demonstrated experience using AI assistants to augment project delivery.

Bonus Points

• Knowledge of Layer 2 and Layer 3 networking protocols.
• Experience with vendor equipment (Cisco, Juniper, etc.).
• Experience building and maintaining large distributed systems.
• Experience managing internal or external customer requirements.
