About the Role
The Product Platform Tools team builds and operates Cloudflare's internal support and admin platform—the foundation that customer-facing and operational teams rely on daily. As a Systems Engineer, you will design and build the backend services, infrastructure, APIs, and integrations that power this platform at enterprise scale.
You will work closely with engineering teams and non-engineering stakeholders (Support, Legal, Security) to bridge technical complexity with real operational needs. We are looking for builders with a security-first mindset and the ability to scale systems for a global organization.
Responsibilities
- Platform Development: Design, implement, and operate backend services, infrastructure, and APIs that form the core of Cloudflare's internal support and admin platform.
- Cross-Functional Partnership: Partner with engineering teams to onboard applications onto the platform and work with non-engineering stakeholders to translate operational needs into scalable capabilities.
- Security & Governance: Own the platform's security and authorization posture, ensuring compliance and access control policies are enforced at scale.
- Operational Excellence: Ramp quickly into legacy codebases, reduce operational toil, and participate in on-call rotations to maintain platform reliability.
- System Improvement: Contribute to observability, developer experience, and engineering standards across the organization.
Requirements
- 5+ years of professional experience building and operating production backend services at scale.
- Strong proficiency in Go and/or TypeScript.
- Demonstrated experience in platform engineering, internal tooling, or support/admin systems.
- Deep understanding of authorization/authentication (OAuth 2.0, OIDC, JWT, OPA/Rego, RBAC).
- Advanced, hands-on experience with Kubernetes and Docker in production environments.
- Strong database experience (schema design, query optimization, high-availability).
- Proven ability to work across organizational boundaries and communicate technical details to non-technical stakeholders.
Nice-to-Have Skills
- Experience with internal support tooling, case management systems, or admin consoles.
- Familiarity with Cloudflare's product ecosystem (Workers, Access, Zero Trust).
- Experience with observability tools (Grafana, Kibana, Jaeger) and infrastructure-as-code (Terraform, GitLab CI/CD).
- Exposure to Temporal workflows or distributed workflow orchestration.
