Systems Engineer, SSL/TLS Team - Cloudflare

About the Role

Cloudflare is looking for a Systems Engineer to join our SSL/TLS team. You will help build and maintain services that manage the issuance and deployment of TLS certificates, ensuring secure connections for millions of websites and billions of visitors.

What You Will Do

• Build services with RESTful APIs and custom datastores using Go.
• Maintain functional specifications for your services.
• Integrate multiple services via message queue systems.
• Evaluate and implement 3rd party and open source tools.
• Design and implement alerts and serve as an escalation point for operational issues.
• Migrate legacy codebase logic to a modern services architecture.
• Review code via pull requests to ensure reliable, fault-tolerant systems.

Requirements

• 3+ years of professional experience building backend systems.
• Experience writing production-quality code in Go (or willingness to learn).
• Proven experience building and operating distributed systems.
• Proficiency with modern Unix/Linux development and runtime environments.
• Strong debugging and troubleshooting skills.
• Track record of delivering well-tested, reliable code.

Desirable Skills

• Experience designing RESTful APIs and full-stack applications.
• Familiarity with PKI/TLS concepts and certificate management.
• Experience writing technical documentation.
• Working knowledge of SQL and relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL).
• Understanding of distributed systems constraints (performance, caching, data storage).
• Experience with message queues (Kafka, RabbitMQ, etc.).
