Senior Infrastructure Engineer II - ConvertKit

About the Role

Kit is looking for a Senior Infrastructure Engineer II to take ownership of a large share of Kit's core infrastructure: databases, Kubernetes, version upgrades, platform tooling, and day-to-day support. You'll also build the paved paths that let engineers, non-engineers, and AI agents test and ship changes safely.

This is a full-time Individual Contributor role for an experienced infrastructure engineer who likes owning production systems end to end, takes on-call seriously, leans into automation, and enjoys making other people's work easier.

Your Support System

You'll report to the VP of Engineering at Kit and work closely with senior platform engineers, as well as partner with product engineers across Kit. Once onboarded, you will join a three-person on-call rotation (roughly one week in three).

Timeline & Expectations

  • First Week: Access AWS accounts, Kubernetes clusters, monitoring, and CI/CD pipelines. Review runbooks and architecture docs. Complete get-to-know-you sessions with team members.
  • First Month: Handle day-to-day infrastructure support requests. Ship your first improvement (such as a version upgrade or monitoring fix). Shadow on-call shifts and document learnings.
  • First Six Months: Own core infrastructure areas end to end (databases, Kubernetes, version upgrades, platform tooling). Take your full share of on-call. Eliminate a recurring source of pages. Ship a first paved path/sandbox environment for testing.
  • First Year: Act as the primary owner for core infrastructure areas, leading projects autonomously. Maintain 99.9%+ uptime, lower page volumes, realize cloud cost savings, and establish automated observability.

Requirements

Skills

  • Running production infrastructure on AWS at scale, including managed relational databases, networking, and load balancing
  • Operating Kubernetes in production: upgrades, capacity planning, and troubleshooting
  • Managing infrastructure as code (IaC) and maintaining CI/CD pipelines
  • Building reliable monitoring, alerting, and observability systems
  • Diagnosing complex, multi-service incidents calmly and remediating root causes
  • Cloud cost optimization through right-sizing and capacity planning
  • Writing clear runbooks, documentation, and technical decision records
  • Nice to have: Experience with Cloudflare, ephemeral/sandbox environments, or high-volume email infrastructure

Experience & Traits

  • ~7+ years in infrastructure, platform, DevOps, or SRE roles
  • Proven track record owning production infrastructure where downtime directly impacts revenue
  • Experience carrying a pager and actively reducing on-call noise over time
  • Track record of leading major infrastructure upgrades/migrations with minimal customer impact
  • Experience building self-service tooling adopted by other engineering teams
  • Experience operating effectively on a small infrastructure team
  • Pragmatic approach to leveraging AI to improve developer velocity and operations

Working Hours and Location

Kit is 100% remote with team members across the globe. Core team collaboration aligns primarily with US East Coast time. This role participates in a three-person on-call rotation, requiring the ability to respond to pages outside normal working hours during on-call weeks (with on-call scheduled around personal PTO).
