Software Engineer (TypeScript/JavaScript) at Databento
The financial industry is experiencing rapid growth, but many data providers still rely on outdated systems. Databento is revolutionizing this by offering a modern market data platform for finance, providing real-time and historical data across futures, options, and equities through a unified API. We own the entire market data stack, combining high performance and reliability with a simplified developer experience.
We are seeking a mid-level or senior individual contributor to join our Platform/API engineering team. You will be instrumental in building, maintaining, and promoting our JavaScript client library, collaborating closely with our design team to deliver production-ready interfaces. This role emphasizes TypeScript/JavaScript, with opportunities for full-stack development involving Python.
Responsibilities
- Own, build, and maintain our JavaScript client library, ensuring robustness, comprehensive testing, and ease of integration for external users.
- Integrate native libraries into JavaScript/TypeScript code using tools like N-API, node-addon-api, or Wasm.
- Develop responsive, high-performance front-end applications utilizing React, Redux, Vite, Web Workers, and WebSockets.
- Contribute to full-stack projects, including backend development in Python (or Rust), REST API design, and database/migration tasks.
- Bridge the gap between design and engineering teams, translating designs (e.g., Figma handoffs) into production-ready components and design systems.
- Set up and manage CI/CD pipelines, including publishing to npm.
- Document components using Storybook or similar tools.
- Collaborate cross-functionally to ensure seamless feature rollouts and updates.
Preferred Background
- Experience working effectively between high-performing design and engineering teams, with a focus on production-ready design systems and tools (e.g., Figma handoffs).
- Proficiency with React, Redux, Vite, Web Workers, and WebSockets.
- A background in trading, market data, or quantitative finance is advantageous.
- Hands-on backend experience in building APIs, working with databases, and managing migrations.
- Full-stack experience with backends in Python or Rust, including REST API design.
- Familiarity with Storybook or similar component documentation tools.
- Strong communication skills and a dedicated work ethic suitable for a remote environment.
