Director of Privacy and Data Governance - Elastic

About the Role

Elastic is seeking a seasoned privacy attorney to serve as Director of Privacy and Data Governance, reporting to the VP of Business Integrity. This role is ideal for a strategic subject matter expert with experience leading a team of attorneys within a dynamic, fully distributed global enterprise.

What You Will Be Doing

• Program Leadership: Lead the Privacy and Data Governance program, providing strategic direction and a risk-based approach to compliance.
• Team Management: Lead and mentor a team of three privacy professionals responsible for operational processes and controls.
• Strategic Advisory: Advise senior management on privacy, data protection, and AI governance frameworks.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Foster privacy awareness across product development, procurement, HR, finance, sales, and marketing.
• Regulatory Expertise: Maintain deep knowledge of foreign and domestic regulations regarding privacy, AI, and data security.
• Contractual Support: Provide legal advice on privacy, security, and data governance terms for customer and supplier contracts.
• Incident Response: Advise on cybersecurity-related inquiries, audits, and incidents.

What You Bring

• Experience: At least 8 years of legal experience in privacy, with at least 3 years of in-house managerial experience.
• Operational Expertise: Proven track record of overseeing the operational aspects of a privacy and data governance program.
• Communication: Ability to translate complex legal concepts into actionable business strategies for senior leadership.
• Soft Skills: Proactive, independent judgment, and a strong sense of ownership in a fast-paced environment.
• Licensure: Must be an actively licensed attorney.
