Principal Software Developer/Tech Lead, Agent Framework - Observability

About the Role

Elastic's Streams program is the unified platform for data ingestion into Elasticsearch, spanning edge collection to cloud processing. As the Tech Lead for the Agent Framework team, you will own the architecture, set the technical direction, and serve as the primary decision-maker for the evolution of Elastic's agent layer.

What You Will Be Doing

• Architectural Leadership: Design a scalable agent layer, evaluate new technologies, and lead architectural reviews to drive system performance.
• Mentorship: Provide technical guidance, conduct code reviews, and foster a culture of continuous learning and engineering excellence.
• Stakeholder Collaboration: Partner with product management to prioritize features and facilitate cross-team collaboration to mitigate project risks.
• Strategic Execution: Lead large, multi-team initiatives from ambiguous design concepts to production-ready software.

What You Bring

• Proven experience as a technical lead or principal engineer on agent, daemon, or systems-level software at scale.
• Deep expertise in observability data collection (metrics, logs, traces) and protocols (OTLP, Prometheus Remote Write, syslog).
• Strong proficiency in Go.
• Experience designing management and control planes for distributed software (e.g., OpAMP).
• Excellent written communication skills, with a track record of producing high-quality design docs and ADRs.

Bonus Points

• Direct experience with Elastic Agent, Fleet, Beats, or OpenTelemetry collector internals.
• Experience with cross-platform testing (Linux, Windows, macOS, Kubernetes).
• Knowledge of pipeline execution models (Streamlang, Logstash, Fluent).
• Experience with infrastructure-as-code (Terraform, CloudFormation).
• Contributions to open-source observability projects.
