About the role

The Elastic Cloud Platform powers Elastic's products in the cloud. Our teams take the undifferentiated heavy lifting off Elastic's engineering organization — building and operating the services that let other engineers develop, ship, and run software at scale.

As a Software Engineer II, you will ship code that engineering teams rely on, build expertise in Go and Kubernetes, and grow your specialty within a fully distributed team.

What you will be doing

  • Build features and components for production services.
  • Take ownership of well-scoped pieces of larger projects, from requirements through production.
  • Propose technical solutions and bring them through to working code.
  • Pair with senior engineers on complex problems.
  • Participate in code reviews and design discussions.
  • Operate the services we own and participate in the on-call rotation.
  • Investigate incidents and automate repetitive work.
  • Communicate status and blockers clearly in an async-first environment.

What you will bring along

  • Hands-on experience writing services in Go, or strong proficiency in another systems language with motivation to ramp up on Go.
  • Working understanding of Kubernetes fundamentals (Pods, Deployments, Services, Operators).
  • Familiarity with at least one major cloud provider (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
  • Curiosity about distributed systems and how services communicate at scale.
  • Comfort working through ambiguity with support from the team.
  • A collaborative approach: welcoming feedback and sharing context.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills.
  • A focus on quality, including testing, observability, and operability.

Bonus Points

  • Experience with Crossplane, Kubernetes operators, or similar infrastructure-as-code tooling.
  • Background working in a cloud-based SaaS environment or on a developer platform.
  • Familiarity with the Elastic Stack or other observability tools.
  • Open source contributions.
  • Experience supporting production services through an on-call rotation.
