About GitBook

We’re building the best platform for authoring, publishing, and maintaining world-class docs. Close to 40,000 sign-ups per month, over 100k Monthly Active Users, used by 2M+ people and thousands of teams like Zoom, FedEx, Nvidia, Snyk, and Google. We’re profitable, backed by P9 Capital, Notion Capital, and Fly VC, and our team is spread across 15 countries in North America, Europe, and Asia.

Our enterprise motion is growing, and the way we reach buyers is changing. Docs are bought by engineering leaders, platform teams, and developer experience owners—people who show up at conferences, dinners, hackathons, and community meetups. Field marketing is how we get in front of them.

This is a new function at GitBook, and you will be the first person to own it.

What You'll Do

  • Own the global event calendar: Decide which industry tradeshows and conferences we show up at, at what level, and run them end-to-end: sponsorship negotiation, booth, staffing, messaging, budget, and on-site execution.
  • Build activation around big moments: Design side-events surrounding conferences (curated dinners, executive roundtables, breakfast briefings, happy hours) and curate target account guest lists.
  • Create GitBook's owned events: Design and run owned formats such as roadshows, customer summits, docs-focused meetups, and launch moments.
  • Experiment with community activation: Partner with DevRel on hackathons, docs sprints, and community events with clear reads on outcomes.
  • Own online events: Run or coordinate webinars, virtual roundtables, and livestreams.
  • Build the tiering model: Define Tier 1, 2, and 3 event criteria: spend bands, staffing, pre- and post-event motion, and qualification benchmarks.
  • Report on pipeline: Build event measurement models focusing on cost per opportunity, event-sourced and event-influenced pipeline, target-account attendance, and conversion.
  • Optimize sales follow-up: Build pre-event target list SLAs with AEs, brief team members, and build follow-up structures that convert badge scans into sales conversations.
  • Act as ABM partner: Collaborate with Sales and Marketing on account selection, buying-committee mapping, and 1:1 or 1:few field plays.

Success Metrics

  • First 90 Days: A tiered event calendar for the next four quarters, a CRM measurement model, and an agreed sales follow-up SLA.
  • Longer Term: Event-sourced/influenced pipeline, cost per opportunity by tier, target-account penetration at Tier 1 events, and speed of follow-up.

What We're Looking For

  • 7–10 years in B2B SaaS marketing: Substantial experience in field marketing, event marketing, or integrated demand generation, including international programs (particularly in the US).
  • ROI mindset: Sharp focus on pipeline metrics, opportunities, and cost per opportunity rather than surface impressions.
  • Operational range: Ability to negotiate sponsorships, manage event logistics, write effective invite copy, and configure HubSpot reports.
  • Sales credibility: Experience collaborating closely with AEs and holding constructive pipeline discussions.
  • High standards for event quality: Opinionated about what makes events memorable and worth attending for buyers.
  • Technical audience context: Understanding of developer and engineering leadership audiences and developer marketing nuances.
  • Ownership mindset: Ability to define processes from scratch and operate autonomously.
  • Travel flexibility: Expect roughly 1–2 weeks of travel per quarter, up to 1 week per month during peak conference seasons.

What This Role Is Not

  • This is an IC role focused on direct execution from day one, not purely strategic people management.
  • This is not brand marketing or product marketing, though you will partner closely with those teams.
