About the Role
GitLab is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to join the AI Events team. You will build the event platform and trigger system that powers GitLab Duo Flows, enabling AI-driven workflows to respond automatically to events across the development lifecycle.
What You’ll Do
- Build Trigger Systems: Design and implement systems that link GitLab events (code pushes, MRs, CI/CD results) and third-party events (Jira, Slack) to AI-powered Duo Flows.
- Architect for Scale: Ensure the event platform is highly available and capable of processing high-throughput event data.
- Work with the Monolith: Develop primarily within GitLab’s Rails monolith while maintaining openness to other languages.
- Collaborate: Partner with product managers, designers, and cross-departmental teams to shape the future of the Duo Agent Platform.
- On-Call: Participate in Tier 2 and Tier 3 on-call rotations to maintain system reliability.
What You’ll Bring
- Ruby/Rails Expertise: Deep experience working within large, established Rails monoliths.
- AI Integration: Proven track record of integrating Large Language Models (LLMs) into user-facing products.
- System Design: Experience building and operating high-availability, high-throughput production systems.
- Agentic Systems: Hands-on experience with agentic workflows and autonomous AI actions.
- Communication: Strong written communication skills for an async-first, globally distributed environment.
- Bonus: Experience with Python and familiarity with GitLab as a product.
