About the Role
As a Staff Infrastructure Security Engineer at GitLab, you will join the Infrastructure Security Team within the Product Security Department. You will play a pivotal role in ensuring our public cloud infrastructure is built with resiliency and security at its core, supporting our SaaS platforms (GitLab Dedicated, Cells) and Self-Managed offerings.
What You’ll Do
- Architectural Leadership: Define patterns, reference implementations, and foundational security automation across GitLab infrastructure.
- Strategic Execution: Lead multi-quarter security initiatives from problem framing to delivery.
- Security Reviews: Conduct comprehensive threat modeling and security reviews for complex infrastructure components.
- AI Integration: Drive the team's approach to AI-assisted security engineering to increase leverage and efficiency.
- Technical Advocacy: Serve as an authoritative voice for Infrastructure Security, translating architectural tradeoffs for engineering teams and leadership.
- Mentorship: Develop and mentor engineers while modeling inclusive collaboration.
- Dogfooding: Actively use GitLab products to secure GitLab infrastructure.
What You’ll Bring
- Cloud Expertise: Expert knowledge of cloud infrastructure (AWS/GCP/Azure) and container orchestration (Kubernetes).
- Programming Proficiency: Strong skills in Go, Python, or Ruby with a history of building production-quality security tooling.
- Infrastructure as Code: Extensive experience with Terraform, Ansible, CloudFormation, and policy-as-code.
- Strategic Thinking: Proven track record of leading multi-team initiatives and setting technical direction.
- Communication: Ability to explain complex security tradeoffs to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Compliance Knowledge: Familiarity with frameworks such as FedRAMP, ISO 27001, SOC 2, and PCI-DSS.
